Tasted Monday March 24, 2009. 330ml bottle, 5.4%Alc/Vol.
Many reviews of this beer suggest huge hops and huge malt character. My palate must be a little immune to these traits or my expectations out-weighed the reality as I experienced it. In saying all of this Epic Pale Ale is a mighty fine beer and not short on hops or malt flavour, but it is a very well balanced beer.
Glistening copper red in the glass. Big, floral hop aromatics with earthy, biscuit maltiness. Rich and full on the palate that tend towards dryer malt character than caramel sweetness. Some toffee notes with ANZAC biscuit, rich and dark fruitiness, superb piney hoppiness driving full throttle through the middle palate with persistence of flavour to the bitter end.
