Tasted Tuesday April 21. 500ml bottle, 4.5% Alc/Vol.
I was looking forward to trying the beers from this brewery. As a teenager in the ATC (Air Training Corps) I spent time on various Air Force bases around New Zealand. Wigram was one I visited a few times and is closed now due to the restructuring of the New Zealand Defense Forces.
Firstly, I liked this beer. With a couple of exceptions, I don’t find Pilsners and lagers over complex and i don’t expect them to be. Cloudy and light gold in appearance with a short lived head. The aromas are flowery fresh like a spring meadow with slight peppery and citrus notes. Medium bodied with flavours of soft malt, creamy lemon and fresh grassy hops. The carbonation is bang on and so are the hops which leave a pleasing bitterness at the finish. A very good session beer albeit a slightly expensive one, but the 500ml bottle makes up for this. Highly enjoyable.
